Arlington County is looking for a Transportation Design Engineer Team Supervisor to lead a team of three-to-four Design Engineers ranging from entry-level to experienced, senior-level Professional Engineer in complex, urban multi modal transportation infrastructure capital improvement projects with associated storm water and utility work. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced engineer to lead a team from concept plan development through final engineering design and construction support on projects ranging in cost from $100,000 to over $5 million.
This Design Engineer Team Supervisor will oversee team responsibilities in the development of concept plans, final design construction drawings, specifications, estimates, bid documents, and support services during construction. Successful completion of projects requires dynamic coordination of engineering considerations such as accommodation of multiple modes of transportation including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit vehicles, trucks, and passenger cars; management of storm water quantity and quality; undergrounding of existing utilities; identification and acquisition of real estate interests; and coordination with private development plans.
This position is located in the Engineering Bureau of the Department of Environmental Services which consists of approximately 75 employees who provide full-scale surveying, design, and construction management services for public works capital projects. In addition to the full range of skills which are provided in-house, the Bureau utilizes contractors and consultants to enhance the capacity of projects. This employee reports directly to the Assistant Engineering Bureau Chief.
The successful candidate will possess outstanding project management skills, technical expertise in civil engineering with experience in a construction plan production environment, and strong leadership qualities, with a proven track record of successfully working with various stakeholders.
Minimum: Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering plus significant experience in the design of public works capital improvement projects and a PE License in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or a state with reciprocity.
Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
Master's degree in Civil Engineering; and/or
Experience coordinating and/or leading the work of professional engineering staff; working with citizen groups and /or commissions or similar stakeholders on engineering issues; and/or preparing construction drawings and contract documents for public works-type projects.
Additional Salary Information: Individuals hired to positions in this pay program will be appointed at a salary based on their experience and training and the nature of the work assigned.
