Geocomp is seeking an experienced GeoStructural Engineer with strong business development and leadership capabilities consistent with our Seller-Doer model. In this position you will provide leadership for the New York Geostructural and Instrumentation group. You will oversee and provide strategic direction and operational support for the growth of the New York office. This includes; project and staff scheduling, operations, facilities and equipment oversight, business development, project management and staff development.
Leadership and people Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate the NY Consulting Group resources to meet the strategic and tactical objectives established by the Geocomp leadership team for budget, quality and safety.
Oversee and manage completion of projects to client satisfaction and procuring new work to grow the office.
Create, sustain and support an environment within the NY Consulting Group that makes it a great place to work.
Oversee and participate in employee performance management initiatives and activities
Encourage professional development to maximize employee productivity and career objectives
Address performance issues with guidance from Director of Human Resources
Address and provide conflict resolution as appropriate with HR support to improve employee and team productivity
Contribute to meetings with other groups within Geocomp to ensure effective communication and flow of operations within groups. Such meetings may include the bi-weekly Business Development meeting, the operations meeting and the quarterly leadership meeting as needed.
Collaborate with other consulting groups in Geocomp to grow opportunities for our staff, improve our capabilities, win new work and grow our business.
Promote positive and effective health and safety practices and ensure that standards and requirements are being met.
Develop substantial new geostructural engineering and instrumentation business, especially with contractors, developers, owners and other professional consultants in traditional design-bid-build environments and in design-build, P3, and other project procurement models.
Manage and grow client relationships as integral part of our growth strategy.
Coordinate with our virtual geostructural design and instrumentation teams in other offices to perform work, manage projects and coordinate field work with subconsultants and subcontractors.
Lead efforts to build and maintain strong sales pipelines and forecasts associated with substantiated opportunities for the NY office.
Develop pursuit strategies, prepare for and facilitate presentations, RFQ and RFP responses, and participate in preparation of proposals and bids for the NY office and in collaboration with other offices.
Project and Client Management Responsibilities:
Manage scope, schedule, budget and client relationships to meet and ideally exceed client expectations across the folio of active projects.
Supervise and coordinate staff for specific projects to obtain alignment between client needs and Geocomp resource allocations.
Effectively managing the project budget and schedule
Ensure deliverables are provided on time and within scope and budget
Routinely interact and manage relationships with clients, customers, officials, contractors, and other stakeholders
Manage the evaluation of data and preparation of geostructural calculations and design for various underground components in which you have expertise with strong support from other professionals in the Geocomp organization.
Help optimize work tasks of project team and preparation of technical reports
Prepare technical reports including interpretation of instrumentation data
Professional Engineer (Geotechnical or GeoStructural background required)
Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering preferably with geotechnical courses; Master of Science in Civil Engineering with a major in geotechnical or structural engineering preferred
Strong leadership capabilities
10+ years of experience with geostructural design, and instrumentation; with 7+ years of experience in the consulting industry working directly with clients
Strong existing relationships with potential clients and proven business development capabilities
Strong collaboration skills with ability to work effectively with colleagues and within in multidisciplinary teams
Proven leadership and program/project management skills
Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills
Can lead, engage, mobilize and motivate multiple teams to accomplish goals across a virtual organization
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced work environment and work well under pressure
Ability to work well independently and in a team environment
