This is professional and administrative work assisting with the planning, organizing, and directing of the Traffic Engineering Division of the Public Works Department.
The Traffic Engineer is responsible for applying engineering principles and techniques in the solution of traffic problems, initiating and developing long range traffic plans, formulating division policies and procedures with approval of the Assistant Public Works Director, and aiding in the development of the departmental budget. Work is normally performed independently and requires the exercising of independent judgement, initiative, and discretion in the interpretation and execution of City policies governing transportation and traffic engineering programs. The Traffic Engineer gives professional advice for the City Commissions' consideration concerning street and highway design and traffic planning and control. Supervision is exercised over employees in the Traffic Division.
Graduation from an **accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, and
Five (5) years of recent experience in the practices and principles of traffic engineering including two (2) years of supervisory experience, and
A licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
Possession of a valid operator driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
