Reporting to the Deputy Director of Public Works for Development Services, the Building Services Manager coordinates, supervises and manages project review, permitting and inspection activities involving the interpretation and application of building codes. This position manages the enforcement of the City’s building and housing codes and land use regulations and related codes and standards, and serves as a technical advisor to Council, Advisory Boards and staff. This position models and supports an emphasis on problem-solving, critical thinking, effective communication, continuous improvement, and effective, efficient and accountable service to internal work groups, other city departments and community partners. The Building Services Manager leads a team of 18 FTE employees and an operating budget of approximately $2.2 million. Direct reports to the Building Services Manager include the Building Inspection Supervisor, Code Compliance Supervisor and Senior Plans Examiner.
A Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, architecture or related field, plus a minimum of five years’ supervisory experience in plan review, building construction and/or inspection or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience is required.
