Position Summary: Reporting to the Director, Technical Services and based in the Vancouver Head Office, the Senior Resource Geologist is responsible for overseeing all aspects of geological modelling, mineral resource estimation, operational geological control, and reconciliation at Capstone’s assets within our mineral resource and reserve (R+R) governance framework. Working collaboratively with other staff in Capstone’s Technical Services department, the Senior Resource Geologist provides technical insight and supporting information for mine planning/operation, project development and company growth opportunities in a team setting with key stakeholders in Exploration, Business Development, and site based Operations departments across the company. As a key technical resource, this position involves responsibility for the estimation of mineral resources and ongoing updates to resource/reconciliation models throughout the life of the company’s assets and development projects. The Senior Resource Geologist combines strong leadership and technical abilities with the capacity to create and promote safe, efficient processes supporting excellence as established by Capstone Mining Corp. Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to): - Collaborate with senior geology and engineering team members to ensure relevant geological information is included in the planning process for each of the company’s assets throughout their life. In particular, this is expected to involve coordination of mineral resource block models with developing and ongoing updates to the geologic interpretation, lithology and mineralogy. Further, through close interaction with associated engineering groups, guide and assist the development and improvement of mine/production plans and mineral reserves.
- Coordinate and execute the updates of mineral resource and reserve models and life-of-mine plans in accordance with Capstone’s R+R Governance processes ahead of the company’s annual planning process for each its assets. This includes collaboration with mine technical department staff and senior mine management to ensure relevant information is collected in a timely manner and utilizes all available mineralogical, lithological, and geochemical, geotechnical, metallurgical, bulk density, and production and reconciliation data sets, either directly or through external service providers.
- Validate and approve annual year-end R+R reporting at Capstone’s operations for use in Capstone’s Annual Information Form.
- Oversight of technical documentation supporting Capstone’s mineral resource and reserve statements in all publicly disclosed information.
- Oversight of production sampling, analysis, QAQC, data management, geological control, grade control, and reconciliation processes.
- Assess operational month-end and quarterly reconciliation reports comparing actual and predicted results with respect to the long-term and short-term mineral resource models and share observations with Technical Services in the Vancouver Head Office and at each site. Interact directly with site geologists, engineers, and metallurgists to review observed trends and discuss potential weaknesses in the information or in the block model.
- Improve predictive capabilities of the mineral resource models by incorporating feedback from reconciliation into the resource update cycle.
- Facilitate synergy and information flow between exploration, geology, project development, mining and operational teams.
- Mentor and develop R+R team members at site and the Vancouver Head Office through improved understanding of R+R Governance concepts, quality management, data verification, and peer review concepts.
