The Principal Regional Planner – South Bay Focus – will represent the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG), coordinate MTC/ABAG transportation and land use initiatives in Santa Clara County/South Bay, with a focus on San Jose, and oversee South Bay transportation and land use planning and implementation of MTC-sponsored projects. This position is in the Housing and Neighborhood section of the Integrated Regional Planning Program serving MTC/ABAG.
The position will represent MTC/ABAG at South Bay meetings, manage planning grants and technical assistance projects awarded to South Bay cities, and serve as initial MTC/ABAG point-of-contact for Plan Bay Area for South Bay jurisdictions. The position will coordinate with both internal MTC/ABAG staff and external stakeholders relaying MTC/ABAG information to stakeholders and conveying feedback and updates on relevant local planning or implementation efforts. The position will also provide support to South Bay jurisdictions on MTC/ABAG regional initiatives. The person in this position will spend a majority of work time on location in the South Bay.
Education: Completion of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university, in an appropriate discipline, such as transportation planning, public policy, public administration, or a similar discipline. Preference will be given to applicants with a post-graduate degree in a planning-related discipline such as land use or transportation planning, public policy, housing or economics. (Applicants with a degree issued from an institution outside the United States must have their transcripts evaluated by an academic accrediting service and provide proof of equivalency along with the application.)
Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible, recent verifiable relevant experience in a field similar to the position. Preference will be given to applicants with additional professional work experience.
