Chelan County PUD is in a rehabilitation phase on its hydro generating units at Rocky Reach and Rock Island hydroelectric facilities. In 2013, the four largest units of Rocky Reach Dams (C8 through C11) were diagnosed with rotor shaft and other component cracks. The vertical Kaplan variable pitch blade units were placed in a fixed position. In 2014 the same large units showed signs of stator winding failures. The first unit (C8) was completely rehabilitated and placed back in service in January 2018. The remaining units require rehabilitation and are currently scheduled to continue through 2021.

We rely on the mighty Columbia River for much of our hydropower generation and we're proud to take a leadership role in environmental stewardship as related to this great river system. Each year we dedicate millions of dollars and thousands of work hours to protect and enhance fish, wildlife and plant ecosystems. As part of hydropower operations, we've also built 14 parks that serve more than 3 million visitors each year.
Rated by National Geographic as one of the top 10 mountain towns in the U.S., and by Sunset Magazine as one of the top 20 Western DREAM TOWNS, Wenatchee is a recreational paradise with an abundance of adventure. The natural beauty of the Wenatchee Valley provides a vivid backdrop to its thriving economy, where the quality of life is high and the climate is moderate with four distinct seasons.
