Basic Function: The Fire Protection Engineering Program at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. We are seeking individuals who value innovation, creativity, diversity, inclusion and collaboration. Applicants must show potential for an innovative and sustainable research and teaching career. The FPE program expects faculty to be involved in a balance of research, teaching and service. The successful candidate is expected to have a PhD or equivalent degree in fire protection engineering or a closely-related engineering discipline. The candidate will be expected to develop an externally funded research program and teach graduate and undergraduate courses in (or related to) fire protection engineering alongside faculty from affiliated departments. A successful candidate would have a demonstrated record of accomplishment in fire science or a related fundamental topic, such as combustion, heat transfer or fluid mechanics. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in CFD modeling and simulations. Exceptional candidates with high achievements in scholarship and teaching may be considered at associate or full professor level with or without tenure.
