The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering and Computing, University of South Carolina, seeks nominations and applications for the position of Department Chair. The Department offers B.S., M.S./M.E. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering, and in Aerospace Engineering (approved this year, the only aerospace program in the state). The department also offers MS and Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering. The department has 33 full-time faculty, an undergraduate enrollment of over 900 students, a graduate enrollment of over 200 students, and over $10.8 million in research expenditures last year. The department is home to six endowed chairs, is home to faculty that support the Biomedical Engineering program and it is also home to the McNAIR Aerospace Research Center. The College is undergoing unprecedented growth and is in the process of growing its tenured and tenure-track faculty ranks by over 50% (net). The next chair will have the opportunity to grow strategic areas of research, and oversee innovation and modernization of curricula, as well as continuing to grow the aerospace program.
