Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Five (5) year of full-time experience in government, nonprofit, private sector Corporate Affairs, and/or philanthropic fundraising. Experience in customer insights, market analytics, and financial management in a science-driven field.

Brief Description of Duties:
The New York State Center for Clean Water Technology (CCWT) seeks to hire an Associate Director for Strategic and Commercial Initiatives. CCWT was founded by NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo in 2015 to marshal the public and private-sector resources of New York State and beyond to develop cost-effective technologies that will restore and protect water quality. During the past three years, CCWT has developed novel approaches to successfully remove contaminants from onsite wastewater and groundwater and has worked collaboratively with water suppliers to refine technologies for removing persistent organic contaminants from public drinking water supplies. Therefore, the selected applicant for the Associate Director position must have a track record of successful scouting, negotiation, and completion of novel business development arrangements such as M&A, licensing, venture investments, or joint ventures in pursuit of an innovative business goal.
The selected candidate will have excellent communication skills with not only the ability to communicate a compelling case for change which simultaneously speaks to the needs of diverse stakeholders in the clean water ecosystem, but experience in defining these compelling business opportunities sufficient to attract investors and entrepreneurs. They will have a fundamental understanding of science, engineering, technology, policy, and commercial strategies. They will need prior experience in bridging the public and private sectors to drive positive change. The selected applicant should have an established network of contacts within the private and public water ecosystem as well as in local and state government. Therefore, having an understanding of the roles, needs, and motivations of local/state governments, academic/scientific institutions, venture investors, entrepreneurs, and special interest groups is imperative to this position. This role requires a coalition-builder with a multidisciplinary orientation to public policy and social responsibility with an understanding of the water industry and technologies and ability to interact at a high level on science, policy, and commercial strategies.
Successful candidates for the Associate Director for Strategic and Commercial Initiatives will develop and execute a commercialization and business strategy for CCWT that includes new commercial opportunities, marketing CCWT resources and capabilities, and expanding the exposure of CCWT to the regional, state, and global water community. The successful candidate will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
Develop and implement practical commercialization, business, and funding strategies for CCWT via partnerships with established and emerging companies, philanthropic sources, government agencies, environmental advocacy organizations, and municipalities. Coordinate and implement cohesive approaches with timelines to achieve investment goals and needs.
Obtain external funding to support/supplement relevant programs. In collaboration with Stony Brook Advancement, coordinate and implement a cohesive fundraising strategy and assist with cultivating and stewarding current and future donors.
Identify commercial challenges and opportunities, identify sources of funding to address opportunities, and write grant proposals to obtain that funding.
Perform water-related industry and company research, analyze market segments, trends, growth, competitive technological developments, and, through the process, identify potential partners for CCWT as well as areas for strategic growth. Maintain contacts with industry partners.
Collaboratively develop online and other materials marketing CCWT and its resources, approaches, and capabilities to the water community, philanthropies, state, and local governments
Collaboratively support SBU's Office of Government Relations by presenting information about CCWT to state and local elected officials.
Participate in local, state, regional, and national professional associations, conferences, and committees as appropriate.
