The City Engineer is a new position at the City of Hood River. Previously the office of City Engineer was fulfilled by contract with a local engineering firm. The City Engineer reports to the City Manager and manages the City’s Engineering Division and its respective programs and projects. This includes the City’s Capital Improvement Program and Development Review. The position reviews and approves complex civil engineering construction and private development engineering plans and documents for conformance to City design and construction standards, codes and ordinances; performs overall supervision and review of detailed and complex engineering calculations, plans, specifications, and required submittals for private development projects, such as street, water distribution, sewer collection, and storm drainage systems.
Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field, and 5-10 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Ability to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Registered Professional Engineer in Oregon.

Additional Salary Information: 90% employer paid healthcare, Oregon PERS, eleven (11) paid holidays, fortyhours (40) of executive leave, and initial annual vacation accrual of eighty (80) hours increasing with tenure, sick leave accrual, and being part of a functional, fun management team.

The City’s all funds budget is $42.1 million plus an additional $6.2 million in
Urban Renewal. The Five-Year Capital Improvement Budget is $32.9 million.
The City operates under a Councilor–Manager form of government with six
councilors and one mayor all elected at-large.
