This position will serve as the Deputy District Engineer for MnDOT's Metro District and provide leadership, strategic direction, managerial expertise and organizational direction to operations related to the Metro District Management Team so that public policy is developed, priorities are established and programs are implemented in an integrated manner throughout the 8 counties of the Metropolitan Area (Anoka, Carver, Chisago, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott and Washington counties).
The position will report to the Metro District Engineer, and will directly supervise four managers responsible for the Livability Framework piloted in the I-94 Rethink efforts, DBE/TGB Contracting, Workforce Equity, and Community Connections sections.
It will serve as the I-94 Corridor Director responsible for securing NEPA approval and letting highway construction projects on the I-94 Corridor between approximately downtown Minneapolis to downtown St. Paul. This is the largest corridor involving the two largest cities and two largest counties in Minnesota with an estimated potential $2 billion investment.
The position will develop key relationships with city and county officials, local legislators, as well as congressional delegates in order to effectively manage the I-94 Corridor and support the Metro District Engineer with the Metro-wide infrastructure system. It will participate on Statewide task forces and committees to develop policy, procedures and directions for the department to support the Commissioner and Governor.

Must be licensed as a Professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geosciences and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) AND have a minimum of three years managerial experience.

Technical Expertise: Extensive knowledge of engineering principles in an engineering organization, experience which demonstrates a broad understanding of transportation planning, traffic, design, construction, operations and maintenance programs and plans. (OR Engineering knowledge sufficient to plan, organize, direct, implement and explain complex transportation programs and policies.)
Fiscal and Human Resources Management: Experience which demonstrates a comprehensive understanding to ensure effective employee development and resource utilization to accomplish the work of an office or functional area and the ability to develop and manage budgets and allocate resources.
Policymaking and Strategic Direction & Initiatives: Experience developing and implementing innovative policies, practices and strategic directions, and substantial knowledge of and experience with the legislative process.
Communications/Human Relations: Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders; experience building and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external partners within the space of equity and inclusion.
