Professor (all ranks) in Manufacturing and Biomanufacturing
The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering (FSE) at Arizona State University (ASU) and the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy are hiring faculty to support a broad initiative in manufacturing and biomanufacturing. In conjunction with that initiative, we seek applicants for tenure-track/tenured faculty positions in the areas of manufacturing of advanced materials (metals, polymers, ceramics, semiconductor, and composites) and biomanufacturing/biofabrication (biomolecules, biomaterials, cells and tissues). Areas of interest include but are not limited to: additive manufacturing; biomanufacturing of biomolecules, cells, and/or tissues; large-scale processing of advanced structural materials and biologics; bio-inspired fabrication, and integration of biological and inorganic materials into complex systems. The appointment will be at the assistant, associate, or full professor rank commensurate with the candidate's experience and accomplishments, beginning August 2020. Although appointments may be in any of Fulton Engineering's six schools, the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy is the intended home for these candidates.
We seek applicants who will contribute to our programs and will leverage investments by the university in promoting interdisciplinary teaching and research. These investments include, among others, the Manufacturing & Technology Innovation Hub (https://additive-manufacturing.engineering.asu.edu/), Lightworks (https://sustainability.asu.edu/lightworks), and the Biodesign Institute (https://biodesign.asu.edu/), along with academic programs across the university. Collaborations with faculty in NSF Engineering Research Centers: CBBG (https://cbbg.engineering.asu.edu/) and NEWT (http://www.newtcenter.org/) and/or our health partners in the local area including the Mayo Clinic (www.mayoclinic.org), Translational Genomics Institute (www.tgen.org), Barrow Neurological Institute (www.barrowneuro.org), Banner Health (www.bannerhealth.com) and Phoenix Children's Hospital (www.phoenixchildrens.org) are encouraged. The current openings are intended to broaden our expertise and expand collaborations.
Faculty members are expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, foster and contribute to inclusive work environment, and undertake service activities.
Required qualifications: • Ph.D. or equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a field closely related to the stated research and teaching focus of this position by the time of appointment; • Evidence of excellence in research, as appropriate to the candidate's rank; and • Evidence of excellence in teaching, as appropriate to the candidate's rank
Desired qualifications: • Commitment to trans-disciplinary teaming; • Ability to engage in well-established research initiatives with numerous health care providers within the Phoenix area
