The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) is seeking a Staff Transportation Planning Engineer in the Transportation Planning and Policy Division at our Little Rock headquarters. This area of the Department is responsible for providing long range multimodal transportation planning for the state, conducting studies of transportation needs, assisting cities and counties in transportation planning, and publishing information and recommendations relative to transportation issues.

Examples of work for this position
Supervise and review staff including hiring, terminating, evaluating performance of, approving time cards for and administering disciplinary actions to subordinate staff.
Organize and provide technical supervision of complex transportation planning activities.
Coordinate, oversee, and provide technical supervision to engineers and planners working on transportation studies.
Provide technical editing for published reports and documents pertaining to transportation planning produced within the Division.
Interact with planning and engineering personnel from other agencies and organizations as well as elected officials and public citizens.
Oversee production of reliable and accurate inventory and traffic data.
Represent the Department as an expert in matters involving transportation planning.

Possession of a current Arkansas license to practice professional engineering. Multimodal transportation planning related experience.
Experience and/or training in conducting transportation planning studies with a state or local planning organization.
Effective leadership and effective oral and written communication skills.
Advanced organizational skills.
Ability to interpret and apply Department policies and procedures.
Ability to represent the Department in public, conduct meetings, and chair committee sessions. Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Advanced knowledge of engineering practices and principles.
Valid driver’s license.
