Heinz College - Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Operations Research and Data Science

The Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy (Heinz College) at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) announces the availability of a post-doctoral fellowship(s) for scholars with education and training in both Operations Research and Data Science, and with interests in both model-based and data driven approaches to decision making. Recent doctoral graduates who are interested in joining a collegial environment and interested in working on real problems and applications in areas such as the pandemic and its consequences, transportation, supply chain management and health care systems are invited to apply. The post doc will have the opportunity to teach up to 1 course in each academic year of their tenure at the Heinz College.  Post-doctoral fellows are mentored by full time faculty at the Heinz College and have gone on to successful academic jobs at CMU and other universities.

The Heinz College is a multi-disciplinary academic unit that values problem-driven research. Faculty research programs are motivated by important societal problems and pursue a variety of different approaches (e.g., empirical, quantitative modeling, computational analysis, and theoretical). The award includes a competitive post-doctoral fellowship and up to $5,000 for research-related travel expenses. Each award is for a minimum of 12-months and may be renewable for an additional year subject to demonstration of research productivity.

Finally, of interest and relevance to potential applicants is that the College intends to search for junior scholars in this area on the tenure track in academic year 21-22.

Applicants should have received a Ph.D. within the last two years – or expected by September 2021. Students enrolled in or who have received a Ph.D. in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering or related engineering disciplines which provide training in data driven and model-based approaches to optimization and decision making are invited to apply.
