The UF College of Medicine, the largest of six colleges at the University of Florida Academic Health Center, opened in 1956 with a mission to increase Florida’s supply of highly qualified physicians, provide advanced health care services to the residents of Florida and foster discovery in health research.
The Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology (MGM) at the University of Florida College of Medicine faculty and staff are highly interactive and engaged leaders in the basic science fields of genetics (bacterial, viral, and mammalian) and host-microbe interactions. There are 21 primary tenured or tenure-track faculty who are highly collaborative both within the department and across centers, departments, and colleges on campus. MGM is a research-intensive department supported by NIH (R01, P01, P50, U01, K99/R00) and foundation awards of $12 million/year. We have a rich history in both genetics and microbiology.
