About University of Utah Biomedical Engineering
The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Utah invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in neuroengineering starting in the fall of 2022. Candidates at the assistant or associate professor rank are sought with research experience at the interface between neuroscience and engineering. Specific areas of interest include: neuromodulation, neuroprosthetics, brain computer interfaces, computational neuroengineering/ neuroscience, neuro-biocompatibility, neurobiology, and protein engineering. Excellent candidates with expertise in closely related areas will also be considered. Candidates must have a demonstrated track record of high-impact research as evidenced by scholarly publications, and must exhibit strong potential (assistant rank) or an established record (associate rank) of extramural funding and teaching effectiveness. Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D., Sc.D., or M.D. with research experience in neuroengineering or closely aligned area. Evidence should be provided of accomplishments and experiences that have prepared the applicant for engagement and inclusion of culturally diverse constituents in research..., teaching and service. Candidates are expected to establish an independent extramurally supported research program, conduct collaborative research, be engaged in service activities, and teach biomedical engineering courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at the University of Utah is celebrating 50 years as one of the oldest Ph.D. granting programs in the world, and is currently home to over 165 graduate students. The Bachelor of Science BME degree program is ABET accredited (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) and graduates approximately 90 undergraduate students each year. The BME department is home to 23 tenure track faculty, 5 research faculty and 94 adjunct faculty. All tenure-track faculty in the Department are engaged in extramurally funded research, undergraduate and graduate teaching, and service. The University of Utah is a tier one research institution with extramural research exceeding $600 million in FY 2020. The medical and engineering complexes are adjacent to each other, nestled in the beautiful Wasatch Mountain foothills of Salt Lake City (SLC). SLC residents enjoy a highly accessible and walkable downtown with vibrant restaurants, sports, nightlife, cultural events, easy access to national parks, world-class skiing/snowboarding, hiking, fishing biking and rafting/kayaking. Salt Lake City is the epicenter of one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the United States, with current population of approximately one million residents. The recently expanded international airport is within 15 minutes from downtown and offers direct flights to most U.S. cities as well as numerous international flights.
