Enjoying wide-open spaces and expansive blue skies, the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority staff are headquartered at the Sanford Dam about 37 miles northeast of Amarillo in the Texas Panhandle. The region is home to several state parks, and from the rugged plains to the mesquite-filled valleys and red-rimmed canyons, it provides an array of spectacular scenery, unique wildlife, and options for outdoor recreation. 

Created by the Texas State Legislature more than 50 years ago, the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority provides municipal and industrial water to 11 member cities in the Texas Panhandle and South Plains, ensuring a dependable raw water resource to more than half a million residents through a 358-mile aqueduct system. Working under the vision and policy direction of the Authority’s Board of Directors, the General Manager acts as the organization’s chief executive officer, providing leadership and support to Authority staff and managing daily operations. 

The Canadian River Municipal Water Authority seeks a visionary and collaborative leader of unwavering integrity who can successfully guide the organization into its next era. Candidates for this position should be skilled communicators and relationship builders who understand how to work with elected officials and staff throughout the organization to build consensus and align daily activities with the Authority’s goals and objectives. They should also understand how to build trust with members of the public and various outside agencies, providing excellent customer service and ensuring the Authority’s short- and long-term interests.

Any combination equivalent to the experience and education that would likely provide the relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position would qualify. A typical path would include a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university with a water resources specialty and at least five years of senior-level managerial experience, including three years operating and maintaining a Texas public utility. Candidates should additionally be able to obtain a license as a Professional Engineer for the State of Texas within six (6) months of being hired, as well as a Texas driver’s license within 90 days. Certification as a Public Manager is preferred. If the selected candidate does not have this certification, the Board will work with the selected candidate to get the Certification as quickly as mutually agreeable.
