Position Summary

The Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research is home to Columbia University’s Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA), which was launched by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2006 and has expanded to over 50 academic medical institutions across the United States.

The Precision Medicine Resource (PMR) seeks to facilitate improved diagnosis and treatment of disease, and ultimately improved maintenance of health through more accurate prediction of disease risk. Precision Medicine offers the opportunity to leverage advances in genomics, biomarkers, and information technology to increase the effectiveness of health care at reduced cost with improved outcomes, decreased adverse effects, and greater patient satisfaction. Each year PMR funds pilot awards, hosts the "Advances in Precision Medicine" seminar series, Precision Medicine symposia, and special guest lectures, in addition to supporting the All of Us study and integration of genomics into EHR initiatives and offering consultations and other services. This position provides support to the Electronic Medical Records and Genomics (eMERGE) network, which seeks to combine biorepositories with electronic health record systems for genomic discovery and genomic medicine implementation research

Reporting to the co-Directors of the Precision Medicine Resource and Associate Director for Finance and Administration and Associate Director of Programs and Communication of the Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, the candidate will work independently and pro-actively towards continued program development, implementation, and strategic long-term planning and oversight of research and education programs.

Responsibilities

• Program development (including a for-credit course and seminar series), evaluation and continuous improvement (including maintaining program data, informational website, web-based grants management application and review system, and all corresponding materials), communication and events management (including open houses, luncheons, poster sessions, selection committee meetings, trainings, workshops and seminars).
• Collaborate with key partners across Columbia University to oversee all pre- and post-award aspects of the pilot application and award cycles including; drafting pilot funding opportunity requests for applications (RFAs); ensuring that RFAs are advertised effectively to potential applicants across Columbia University’s campuses; serving as primary contact for applicant questions and inquiries; coordinating application review process and convening of selection committee meetings; serving as liaison to precision medicine pilot awardees to support their projects; announcing awardees and monitoring awardee progress and collecting project outcomes to be reported in annual progress reports, creating presentations and other reports, as needed.
• Oversee all program evaluation and dissemination activities for PMR, in collaboration with the Administrative Core and Evaluation and Continuous Improvement team.
• Serve as a member of the larger Irving Institute Program Manager’s team including working with other program managers of the Irving Institute to fully execute Irving Institute goals and mission and serving on internal working groups. The Program Manager will join the Irving Institute Administrative Core in providing support for major Irving Institute events including the annual External Advisory Board, Internal Advisory Committee, retreats and symposia, as needed.
• Perform general administrative functions including document preparation, filing, and scanning.
• Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Genetic Counseling, Human Genetics, Genomics, or a closely related field, and at least 3 years' experience in administration, preferably in an academic setting.

• Candidates with experience in program development, management, and oversight of peer review or admissions process will be viewed as extremely competitive.

• Demonstrated achievement in project management, organizational and follow-through skills, superior interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, close attention to detail, high degree of proficiency with computer software (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, project management tools), ability to quickly learn new computer programs, strong work ethic, ability to work independently, experience interacting with all levels of faculty, management and staff, and ability to manage multiple programs and initiatives.
