The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Utilize characterization tools to gain fundamental understanding of polymer composites
Provide direct support to develop polymer processing techniques in novel applications
Assist in the development and execution of a product development pipeline for next generation lithium ion batteries including binders, separator, and other relevant battery materials, meeting key milestones and timelines
Engage with marketing and sales functions to understand customer needs and translate them into CTQs
Develop and advance laboratory testing capabilities, evaluate results, and determine improvements or changes needed to achieve goals
Work with a team of technical service and R&D scientists to evaluate and improve battery component materials
Collaborate with national laboratories, universities and industry partners to align on and reach key milestones and deliverables with efficient resource allocations
Collaborate with global laboratories to support product development and customer requirements
The following is required for this role:
Masters or equivalent degree in polymer science & engineering or material science
Strong understanding of polymer structure-property-processing relationship
Expertise in polymer processing techniques such as mixing, calendaring, extrusion, molding
Deep understanding and application of mechanical and rheological characterization tools
The following is preferred for this role:
Ph.D. or equivalent in polymer science & engineering with 5+ years of industrial experience
Experience in battery related research and development
Working knowledge of fluoropolymers is a plus
Experience leading technology projects, presenting results and resourcing laboratories.
